Small Wonder is a vineyard, winery, cellar door, and restaurant on the Western Ridge of the Tamar Valley, 41 degrees south and 50 metres above sea level. We're set among native bushland, a 35-minute drive from Launceston and an hour from the Spirit of Tasmania terminal in Devonport.

Our 25-hectare Tamar Valley vineyard is certified organic by ACO. Its original 20 hectares of vines were planted in 1998 and are shaped by the Tamar River and cool Bass Strait winds. Aromatic whites (Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Gris) grow in the grey sand at the top of the slope. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir follow it down through grey silt loam, red silt clay loam, and Ferris mudstone.

A second vineyard in the Coal River Valley sits in the rain shadow of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. Drier and more continental, it has a character all its own and is in conversion to organic certification.

Every wine is made from our own fruit and bottled on site at our Tamar Valley winery, completed in 2024. It was built to tread lightly, with solar power, rainwater harvesting, on-site wastewater treatment, and EV charging. We kept the bushland around it and planted new habitat to support biodiversity.

Two Tasmanian sites. One purpose: fresh, precise wines that are true to where they're from.

Completed in January 2024, our purpose-built winery brings all winemaking on site. Powered by green energy and supported by rainwater harvesting and a best-practice wastewater system, the facility is designed for both environmental performance and effortless functionality.

Small Wonder wines reflect the purity, texture, and vibrancy of Tasmania. Every bottle is grown, made, and bottled on-site with minimal intervention. Tastings are currently offered at the Cellar Door alongside gourmet platters.

Small Wonder is entering a new chapter. Opening in September, the new Cellar Door and Restaurant brings together organically grown wines from the Tamar Valley and Coal River Valley, seasonal Tasmanian produce and immersive winery experiences.

This vineyard participates in the Tamar Valley Mixed Dozen freight scheme.

Collect wine on your travels and present your purchased bottles (in dozen lots) at the last vineyard on your journey – they’ll let you know the cost of freight and it will be sent to your home address.
